Are You Experiencing…

Did You Know?

  • At least 45 million buildings in the United States have unhealthy levels of mold (Moldy, 2017)
  • 93% of chronic sinus infections have been attributed to mold (Mayo Clinic, 1999)
  • About 40% of asthma episodes are triggered by the household presence of mold, dust mites, or rats (Center for American Progress, 2016)
  • Of the 21.8 million people reported to have asthma in the U. S., approximately 4.6 million cases are estimated to be attributed to dampness and mold exposure in the home (EPA and Berkeley National Laboratory, 2007)
  • Infants exposed to mold in their living environments have nearly a 3x greater risk of becoming asthmatic than those who did not have extensive mold exposure in their first year of life. (Michael Pinto, 2018)

Mold Types: Allergenic, Toxigenic and Pathogenic

Allergenic

Allergenic

Molds that cause and produce allergies and allergic reactions such as asthma attacks.

Toxigenic

Toxigenic

Molds that produce toxic substances that can lead to dangerous or even deadly health conditions.

Pathogenic

Pathogenic

Molds that cause health problems in those suffering from an acute illness.

Mold Spores

When you discover a mold colony growing under a sink or on the wall after a leak or flood, do you wonder where it comes from? It was there all along.

Mold can be tricky like that. Visible mold typically shows up when a fibrous material, like wood or drywall, becomes saturated with water, usually because of water intrusion like leaks and floods. It can even begin to grow if the relative humidity is consistently above 60%! But for that growth to be possible, mold spores must be present.

That’s just one reason mold can be so insidious. It is likely that many homes in America have an elevated mold spore count, probably well above the baseline environment. According to Moldy, at least 45 million buildings in the United States have unhealthy levels of mold.

When we have conversations about why mold can be dangerous for humans, it isn’t because we see black mold appear on our walls and then lick it! We say mold can be hazardous because mold spores may be harmful to human health, and they pollute our air. We breathe them in!

We are scratching the surface of the issue. The bottom line is this: Evidence indicates that mold spores may hurt human health. Whether you see mold or not, mold spores likely pollute your indoor air, and could be putting your health at risk.

We hear painful stories from clients who are so uncomfortable in their homes that they are reluctant to go in their own home. They know that the moment they step through the door, they will almost immediately notice an allergic type reaction such as watery eyes, brain fog or breathing issues. We have met so many otherwise healthy people who have received medical care because of a mold related issue.

If any of this sounds like you, Pure Maintenance can help. We can reduce the total mold load in a space to nearly zero, well below the environmental baseline.

Mold Varieties

Most people have heard of black mold, but many other types of mold can also infest homes and businesses. While some are more harmful than others, the CDC recommends removing any mold you find. You can learn more about different mold varieties in our mold spore library and on our blog!

Mold Removal

Unfortunately, it isn’t always obvious when you have mold growing. It can grow out of sight in attics, basements, cupboards, cellars, and crawlspaces. The truth is that in any space that is consistently damp or has experienced severe water damage (such as because of a leak or flood), there is likely mold growing that should be removed.

Worse still is that mold doesn’t even have to be visible to be hazardous to your health. Many varieties of mold spores are enough to incite reactions even without a visible mold colony. Some molds (called marker molds) even produce mycotoxins that can linger and cause serious health problems if left unaddressed.

Your best bet is to find a solution that brings the total mold load in your space as close to zero as possible. Our process has been documented to reduce mold spore counts by 99%. That is one way Pure Maintenance stands out from traditional methods.
